U.S., British armed forces to take part in United Efforts 2020 exercise – UAF
The United States and British military units will take part in the 2020 Joint Efforts strategic command and staff exercise, and up to 200 foreign instructors, military advisers and observers will oversee the exercise, Head of the General Directorate of Doctrine and Training of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Oleksiy Taran said.
"Also, a feature of the exercises this year will be their international character. For the first time, the military units of the armed forces of NATO member states will be involved in the strategic command and staff exercises: the United States, Great Britain for the joint implementation of combat training tasks, advisers of the NATO Representative Office in Ukraine, representatives NATO Liaison Offices in Ukraine, as well as instructors, military advisers, observers from the United States, Great Britain, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Poland," Taran said at a briefing at the Ukrainian Defense Ministry in Kyiv on Tuesday.
In total, up to 200 foreign instructors, military advisers and observers will oversee the exercise. "Their work will be organized not only in military units and subunits, headquarters at the tactical level, but also at the command posts of the strategic and operational levels," Taran said.
He said that within the international cooperation, it is planned to involve units and tactical groups of the NATO armed forces for joint actions during the training and combat missions.
"It is expected to involve a company tactical group of the air assault brigade of Great Britain, which will take part in a complex of tactical and tactical-special exercises. Together with the units of the Ukrainian air assault forces, it will work out the issues of landing and seizing a bridgehead to ensure the forcing of medium, small and large water obstacles, overcoming water obstacles on landing craft and on a pontoon bridge, conducting raiding operations. At the same time, the commander of the air assault brigade of Great Britain was appointed to the staff of the leadership of the deputy chiefs of tactical exercises," Taran said.
Meanwhile, the representative of the General Staff said that this company tactical group arrives in Ukraine by airborne with the help of military transport aircraft, and will carry out parachuting with weapons and equipment to the training grounds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of the corresponding exercises.
"It is also envisaged to ensure the exchange of data on air and ground conditions, including using AWACS E3-A aircraft and Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicles," he said.
Taran said that simultaneously with the strategic command and staff exercises, it is planned to conduct other multinational exercises and events with the participation of units of NATO member countries and partner countries, in particular, the Rapid Trident Ukrainian-U.S. exercise, a combat training flight of strategic bombers of the U.S. Air Force with imitation of the application of missile and bomb strikes against critical infrastructure and sea targets, training of the air tactical group of special operations forces of the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe with the development of joint missions with units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
There will also be planned training activities involving UNIFIER, JMTG-U and ORBITAL training mission instructors.
