GUAM countries agree on exchange of information about customs law breakers

Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and Azerbaijan have signed a protocol of cooperation in the sphere of fighting against customs law violations linked to the movement of goods by air across the state borders of the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Cooperation member states, the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine has reported.

"This is a new stage of cooperation of the customs authorities of the GUAM countries in protecting our borders from illegal movement of goods. We are already cooperating with colleagues on the exchange of preliminary information on goods and vehicles moved across the borders of GUAM countries. However, more and more often, air transport is used for illegal traffic," the press service of the State Fiscal Service reported, citing its Head Oleksandr Vlasov, who signed the protocol from the Ukrainian side.

The signed document will allow coordinating actions to prevent these violations, Vlasov said.

According to the protocol, the countries will determine the authorized units that will exchange information about the persons who are preparing, committing or have already committed the above-mentioned customs offenses, as well as about goods transported by air in violation of the customs legislation of a GUAM member country, the authority said.
