Truba says State Bureau of Investigations will start operating in Sept

Roman Truba, director of the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI), has said that there are no laws needed for full-fledged work of the SBI and there is a problem with premises, but added that the SBI will start working in September in the form that will be possible.

Truba said during a roundtable discussion in Kyiv on Friday that 17 people were currently working at the SBI, in particular the director, two deputy directors and employees of the patronage service. He noted that people were currently being hired for 701 posts in the bureau and this process would be completed by the end of summer.

According to him, tenders are currently being conducted for the purchase of goods and materials to ensure the technical side of investigators' work in September.

Truba focused on a number of problems that hinder the full-fledged launch of the bureau's work, but do not depend on the SBI itself.

"The premises of the central apparatus are currently absent," he said, adding that there are also questions with the premises of the territorial directorate in Kyiv.

"There are premises, but I cannot get a signature of an acceptance and transfer certificate for a month," Truba said.

Truba also recalled that the bureau's budget for this year is UAH 45 million, which is not enough given the needs of the central office and territorial directorates.

"They ask me if the bureau will start working in September this year. Yes, it will. But in what form? Investigative units and civil servants will start working," he said.

He added that from September he would again ask the Verkhovna Rada to pass bills ensuring the full-fledged work of the SBI.
