Poroshenko signs law permitting six-month contract military service

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed law No. 711-VII on amending the law on military service specifying the terms of contract military service – six months, the press service of the head of state has reported.

The law is intended to establishing concrete terms of contract military service during the special period if the crisis situation threatening national security appears or the decision on mobilization and/or the imposing of martial law is made.

The six-month period is set for draft military servicemen enlisted during mobilization who served at least 11 month during the special period, persons dismissed from service during the special period. They will pass contract military service in the period from the moment of announcing mobilization, imposing of martial law or announcing demonization.

The contract could be early terminated if the special period ends or a demobilization decision is announced.

There is a possibility to continue contract military service for the period of six months if the contract expires and the special period does not end.
