Poroshenko hopes 2015 will be year of reforms on road to EU membership

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has congratulated Ukrainians on the New Year.

"The outgoing year has been the most difficult year in the past seven decades, since 1945. A cruel enemy has encroached on our lives, territory, freedom, and independence. But the whole country, young and old, has raised to defend our homeland. We will surely win this Patriotic War, as it is fair for us. The truth is on our side! God is with us!" he said in his New Year's address to the nation.

He also honored soldiers who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine and civilians who were killed through the fault of the aggressor.

"2015 will not be an easy year. Still, I believe that it will go down in history as a year of the beginning of profound reforms that will pave the way to EU membership for our country. It is our dream, and we will make it happen together," Poroshenko said.

He wished Ukrainians a long-awaited and lasting peace and victory on their territory.
