A congress of the Our Ukraine Party will be held on May 18, the acting chairman of the party's political council, Zinoviy Shkutiak, has said.

"The party's political council made a number of important decisions on February 9, 2013: in accordance with the party's charter, to conduct the re-registration of party members within two months and set the date of the next congress of the Our Ukraine Party for May 18, 2013," Shkutiak said in an address to the members and supporters of Our Ukraine, which was made available to Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

The address notes that Our Ukraine led by Viktor Yuschenko will not allow "the creation of illegitimate parallel structures through the corporate seizure of the party and the holding of illegal conferences and even the congress."

Shkutiak called on party members "to unite around the Ukrainian idea and realize that any attempt to split the party is advantageous to the forces that cannot afford to see the strengthening of our nation."

He said that those who currently carry out the order to split and discredit Our Ukraine at one time were involved in splitting the People's Movement of Ukraine national-patriotic party, headed by Viacheslav Chornovil, and the Ukrainian Republican Party, which was led by Levko Lukianenko.

Earlier reports on Monday said that the organizing committee of the 12th congress of the Our Ukraine Party, which is to be chaired by the head of the political council, Serhiy Bondarchuk, on February 10 decided to hold the 12th congress of the party in Kyiv on March 2.

The organizing committee includes 29 representatives of most regional organizations (Crimea, Volyn., Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhia, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Kherson, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, Chernihiv regions, Kyiv, Sevastopol, the central controlling and auditing commission, and the executive committee), including the heads and deputy heads of the regional branches of the party, the leaders of the party's executive committees and representatives of city and district organizations.
