Cox-Kwasniewski mission mandate on Tymoshenko-Lutsenko expires, final report planned for January 9

The mandate of the European Parliament’s observation mission of former Polish President Alexander Kwasniewski and former European Parliament President Pat Cox on the trials of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko expired last year, and EP President Martin Schulz will receive a final report from the mission on January 9.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that a meeting, during which a final report on the results of the mission's work in Ukraine is to be presented, is scheduled for January 9.

An interim report of the mission was passed to the European Parliament in October 2012. The work of the mission was suspended during the election campaign in Ukraine and resumed after the October 28 elections.

Kwasniewski earlier confirmed that the European Parliament's mandate "is absolutely clear – we will continue this mission until the end of the year."

"By the end of the year we have to find a solution and present the final report to the European Parliament," he added.
