Ukraine not in strongest position now, but not losing – Sybiha

Ukraine is not in the strongest position now, that is why the concept of "peace through strength" needs to be implemented, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.

"We appreciate any help, any support from our allies. European and Ukrainian security are inseparable. It is important to understand this. And I would also like to draw attention to one very important point. Ukraine is not losing," Sybiha said at the panel discussion Ukraine: The Road Ahead on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The minister emphasized that in February it will be three years since full-scale Russian aggression.

"Yes, perhaps at that stage we should have expected more decisive decisions. And perhaps we should not be in the situation we are in now. Yes, we are not in the strongest position now. This is true. That is why it is so important to implement this concept - peace through strength," urged Sybiha.

According to him, Ukraine has a clear understanding of this concept and its elements, "which could strengthen our positions right now."

Sybiha emphasized that the outcome of the war will form a new global security order, "and it will be a very unstable and dangerous world if Russia is rewarded for its aggression."

"It is inappropriate to put Russia, the aggressor, in the same dimension with Ukraine, which is fighting for its independence. On the contrary, if this war ends fairly, with respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of Ukraine, the world will become safer. Therefore, it is also very important not to manipulate the meaning of the term 'peace,' only a comprehensive, long-term peace," the Foreign Minister said.
