Since war start, Ukrainian electrical companies increase production, have potential in Europe – head of Ukrenergo

Ukrainian manufacturers of electrical equipment have significantly increased production volumes since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine and shelling of the energy system, but they have much greater potential, including in the European market, Volodymyr Kudrytsky, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, says.

"Ukraine historically has a strong position in production of electrical equipment. And as paradoxical as it may sound, after the start of the full-scale invasion and last year's attacks on the energy system, it was possible to create additional incentives for these manufacturers. They actually produce more products than before the invasion," Kudrytsky said during forum Made in Ukraine in Kyiv on Monday.

"In fact, Ukrainian producers played a big role in the fact that we survived last winter and restored the energy system, and are now going through the current winter period normally," he emphasized.

At the same time, the head of Ukrenergo noted that such a dynamic market as the market for electrical products makes it possible to produce products not only for Ukrainian needs, but also for European ones, since there is a huge demand in Central and Eastern Europe for such equipment.

Kudrytsky called the advantages of Ukraine, in particular, low production costs, very serious training of engineering personnel, as well as better logistics capabilities than, for example, with China or Turkey.

At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that there are certain nomenclature positions "in certain niches and segments where the Ukrainian manufacturer simply does not exist yet."

But, in his opinion, Ukraine needs to focus on securing long-term procurement contracts that will allow existing enterprises to scale up production, as, according to him, happened with orders from Ukrenergo for two to three years, and those industries which do not yet exist, to create the first pilot contracts that "will allow large global players to enter, but to localize production here in Ukraine."
