Canada after 20 years cancels 77% duty on hot-rolled steel from Ukraine

During the next review of the duties introduced back in 2001 on hot-rolled carbon and alloy steel sheet and strip from Brazil, China, India and Ukraine, Canada decided not to extend the 77% duty on goods from Ukraine.

"The Tribunal rescinded its order with respect to the dumping of such goods originating in or exported from Ukraine. The Tribunal found that the continued or resumed dumping of these goods was not likely to result in injury," the Canadian International Trade Tribunal said on the website of the Government of Canada.

The Tribunal continued its order with respect to the dumping of these products from Brazil, China and India.

"Since August 2001, 77% duties had been imposed on hot-rolled carbon steel products originating in Ukraine in Canada, which effectively deprived our producers of an economic incentive to export their products to Canada. After 20 years, finally, Ukrainian steel products can again be exported to Canada," Ambassador of Ukraine Yulia Kovaliv said on Facebook, commenting on this decision.
