Kazakhstan ready to deliver gas to Ukraine, waiting for Russia's consent, says ambassador

Kazakhstan would like to deliver its own gas to Ukraine, but this would not be possible before the talks with Russia.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ukraine Amangeldy Zhumabayev announced this at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday.

"Gas is a product, which is not shipped without Russia. Again, everything will depend on how you will manage to come to terms with Russia," the ambassador said.

In any case, Kazakhstan wants to expand its markets, including by exporting liquefied gas, Zhumabayev said.

As reported, during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to Kyiv in spring of 2010, Ukrainian businessmen securing the support of President Viktor Yanukovych urged the Russian leadership to give its consent to the shipments of Central Asian gas to Ukraine. In response, Medvedev said that Russia would settle this issue with the countries of Central Asia.
