Communications commission proposes changes to RF use plan to prevent cluttering in Wi-Fi equipment operation

The National Commission for Communications and Informatization Regulation (NCCR) at a meeting on November 21, 2017 decided to submit proposals to the State Special Communication and Information Protection Service of Ukraine amending the radio frequency (RF) spectrum use plan. The amendments concern the improvement of conditions for licensing the 2,400-2,483.5 MHz RF band range intended to ensure the effective use of RF in the condition of the introduction of LTE technology in the neighbor band ranges.

The press service of the commission said that the analysis of the 2,400-2,483.5 MHz RF band range use showed that there is a high likelihood of creating cluttering for Wi-Fi by LTE technology if LTE is introduced in the 2,300-2,400 MHz and 2,500-2,700 MHz range.

With the current licensing principle, a maximum of three channels are available simultaneously in the 2,400-2,483.5 MHz band. At the same time, modern equipment allows the use of up to 13 channels, with automatic selection depending on the load.

In order to solve the above-mentioned problem, the NCCR proposes supplementing the licensing conditions for the RF 2,400-2,483.5 MHz band with the mark L03.

This means the use of any channel with the appropriate bandwidth based on the license for the RF use in the entire assigned RF band by an unlimited number of users to build wireless local networks inside and outside the premises, if radio equipment is used that provides an adaptive choice of a free channel and a method for mitigating the effect of interference in conditions general RF use with technologies that can ensure the effective use of RF spectrum.

The changes will create conditions for the unhindered operation of Wi-Fi equipment and the continuity of the provision of Internet access services.
