Crown Agents completes procurement of essential respiratory medicines to newborn babies

Britain's Crown Agents has completed the order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and procured medicines for the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome, which is one of the major causes of death among newborns in the first weeks of their lives, using the 2016 budget funds, the agency has said in a press release.

"Ukraine's healthcare facilities already have 96% of the necessary medicines for saving babies. 4% of supplies are currently being prepared for shipment," Crown Agents said.

According to the ministry, as of August 23, 96% of the medicines has been shipped to the regions.

Crown Agents procure for the Ministry of Health of Ukraine under 12 programs totaling UAH 1.067 billion.

In general, for the total amount of UAH 51.1 million from 2016 state budget it was planned to procure the medicines for the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome. Crown Agents procured the full order, with budget fund savings amounting to more than UAH 800,000.
