Ukraine ready to take part in building TAPI gas pipeline

Ukraine is ready to participate in building the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline (TAPI) gas pipeline, Deputy Prime Minister and Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Economy Minister of Ukraine Hennadiy Zubko has said.

"Ukraine is ready to participate in the realization of the project on building the TAPI gas pipeline. Our industrial enterprises are able to supply equipment and spare parts for the project… Ukraine is ready to ship products of Zorya-Mashproekt and Sumy NPO to build this gas pipeline. We're ready to supply pipes and carry out construction and assembly works," Zubko said at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Yagshigeldy Kakayev as a part of a working visit to Turkmenistan, the press service of the ministry has reported.

Zubko said that Ukraine is interested in supplies of light fuel from Turkmenistan, particularly, diesel fuel, which quality today is in line with European standards.

He said that Ukraine has opportunities to participate in Turkmen trunk projects as a part of TAPI.

"Ukraine is ready to participate in the projects on construction of the trunk railway and power line which will be implemented as a part of the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline," Zubko said at a meeting with deputy prime ministers of the Turkmen cabinet Saltyk Saltykov and Shamuhammet Durdyliyev.

Zubko reminded the success of the project on building the sewage treatment complex in Ashgabat.

"Ukraine is interested in continuing the project and expanding its capacity from 300,000 cubic meters to 600,000 cubic meters. We're interested in the realization of projects on construction of subway and roads," he said.

At a meeting with Saltykov, the Ukrainian deputy prime minister agreed on plans to supply 1,500 wagons to Turkmenistan, and a tender has been announced for 750 wagons. The Turkmen expert commission is studying the possibility of supplying the rolling stock from Kriukov Car Building Works.

"Turkmenistan is interested in supplies of automobile transport from Ukraine and in the implementation of orders on production of non-standard wagons. These wagons will be used on the railway along the TAPI gas pipeline," Zubko said.

The meeting was held before the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the gas pipeline.

The gas pipeline's length is to be 1,735 kilometers and over 700 kilometers of the pipeline are on the territory of Afghanistan. When the project is completed, it will be able to carry 33 billion cubic meters of gas.
