Ukrainian airlines can fly Sharm el-Sheikh if additional safety measures are taken – aviation service

The State Aviation Service of Ukraine has decided to allow Ukrainian airlines to continue to fly to Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt) if they take additional safety measures.

The agency said on its website that after Metrojet Flight 9268 from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg crashed killing all onboard, a public inspector for air safety oversight of the State Aviation Service checked the safety of Sharm el-Sheikh airport.

The new air safety measures at the airport were checked and meetings were held with airport officials.

"At the meeting with the top managers of the airport large attention was paid to additional air safety measures introduced in the airport after the crash of the Russian aircraft. The State Aviation Service decided to continue servicing flights to/from the airport of Sharm el-Sheikh if airlines take additional air safety measures aimed at cutting risks to acceptable levels," the agency said.

Earlier, acting head of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine Eduard Diomin told Interfax-Ukraine that the inspection of Sharm el-Sheikh airport did not reveal any serious risks to airlines and passengers.
