Draft 2016 national budget unfinished – Jaresko

The Ukrainian government has not finished working on the draft budget for 2016, Ukrainian Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko said in the parliament.

"Now we're preparing the final draft budget which should show the reduction of expenses in line with the tax reform we've drawn up. At present, the government does not have the final document that we can submit," she said.

Jaresko said that the draft national budget is to be agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

"I can submit it [the draft budget] only after it is agreed," she said.

She did not disclose the approximate term for submitting the draft budget to the parliament.

Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said on November 4 that the government will advocate for the adoption of a balanced national budget for 2016 and corresponding tax reform.

This should be the joint political responsibility of both the government and the parliamentary coalition, he said, adding that he won't agree to any reduction of social standards.

Several coalition MPs recently submitted their version of draft tax reform to the parliament, which is more liberal than the reform plan drawn up by the Finance Ministry. The ministry said that this option is unworkable to adopt due to a risk of the sharp fall in budget revenues and the termination of crediting by the IMF.
