The statement by head of national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy Andriy Kobolev that the price of gas for households will grow by 50% from May is absolutely unclear from the point of view of justifiability of the decision, Head of Donetsk Regional Administration Serhiy Taruta said on Thursday.

"First one should understand what the internal resources at Naftogaz Ukrainy, clarify the cash cost of gas, optimize the operation of the company and then make the justifiable decision regarding the tariffs," Taruta said.

He also said that the decision of Naftogaz Ukrainy's head was very strange.

He said that first the situation with internal resources of the company and a problem of corruption should be settled, as the corruption level in the holding had always been high.

"It's absolutely unclear for me to hear such statements in the first day [of Kobolev's appointment]. This means that as they stole before they will steal in the future, and now we'll get into pockets of households. We won’t agree to this," Taruta said.

He also said that there are lawmakers who should assess the statement of Kobolev and cancel the decision.
