Ukrainians in March 2013 bought foreign currency only $2.7 m more than sold, says NBU

The amount of net purchases by Ukrainians of foreign currency from banks in March 2013 was equivalent to $2.7 million, which was 82 times down on February 2013 ($221.6 million), the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has reported.
The NBU reported that individuals in March 2013 bought $1.256 billion from the banks, which is 5.9% down on the previous month.
At the same time, the public sold $1.253 billion in foreign currency to the banks, which is 12.6% up on the previous month.
In general, the total volume of transactions on the cash currency market in March 2013 stood at $2.509 billion, which was 2.5% up on February 2013.
In addition, the NBU said the volume of bank deposits by individuals in freely convertible currency in March 2013 narrowed by $195.9 million, to $22.383 billion as of April 1, 2013.
