Andriy Shevchenko invited to play in Indonesian championship

Well-known Ukrainian football player and 2004 Ballon d'Or winner Andriy Shevchenko has been invited to play in the Indonesian championship, Kaltim Post reported on Sunday.

The leader of the local championship, Mitra Kukar, is planning to offer Shevchenko a contract for five matches, and the Ukrainian will be able to get a billion Indonesian rupiahs ($100 million) for each of them.

"Sheva admitted that he wants to play for Mitra Kukar. The problem is for how long he will be able to play for the club. We also need to discuss the terms of the contract," a representative of the club said.

He said that the team was now able to sign one more non-Asian player, but only for the second round of the national championship since the period of player's registration is now over.

On February 9, Shevchenko participated in a charity match between Italy's Milan Glorie and Indonesia All Star Legend, which was held in Jakarta. The Milan stars won the game 4-2, with Shevchenko scoring a goal.

Mitra Kukar is now on top of the Indonesian Super League after six rounds played. Eighteen teams play in the highest football league in Indonesia. The tournament is held on a spring-autumn schedule.
