FFU selects five candidates for post of Ukraine manager

The Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) has selected five candidates for the post of head coach of Ukraine's national football team, FFU President Anatoliy Konkov has said.

"A group of five coaches, among them Ukrainians, has currently been selected. We will not mention their names, but we'll first hold the necessary consultations. Then we'll reduce the range of candidates and begin talks directly with the candidates," he told the FFU's press service on Wednesday.

Konkov said that the situation with the search for Ukraine manager was being complicated by the fact that coaches are usually appointed before qualifying.

"It's not an easy step to select an optimal candidate now, during the tournament [qualifying for the World Cup in 2014]," he said.

The FFU president said that Oleksandr Zavarov remained Ukraine's acting coach.

As reported, on November 28, FFU First Vice-President Anatoliy Popov said that the FFU had a list of 30 Ukrainian and foreign candidates for Ukraine manager, among them Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The post of Ukraine coach became vacant after Oleh Blokhin agreed to take charge of FC Dynamo Kyiv in late September 2012.
