Safiullin: Ukraine to bid to host European Women's Handball Championship in 2018

Ukraine is considering submitting a bid to host the European Women's Handball Championship in 2018, Head of the State Service for Youth and Sports Ravil Safiullin has said.

"We're interested in that. I will consult with the prime minister and the president of Ukraine, and I think that Ukraine will file a bid," he said during a meeting with President of the European Handball Federation Jean Brihault, who arrived in Kyiv on the occasion of the Turchyn Cup on Friday.

Safiullin said that after Ukraine hosts the EuroBasket 2015 European Basketball Championship, the country would have six sports facilities with infrastructure ready for the handball championship.

Brihault, in turn, noted that since the bid to host the European women's handball championship should be submitted four years before the championship is held, and that the hosts of the tournament in 2016 had already been determined, Ukraine could submit the bid in 2014.

As reported, this summer, Ukraine and Poland co-hosted the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.

In 2013, Ukraine will be World Youth Championships in Athletics in Donetsk and the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships.

Ukraine also plans to submit a bid to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2022.
