PRESS RELEASE: Economist Conferences to hold a Ukraine Summit 'Can real reform be delivered?'
Aspiring to create an open and candid dialogue between business and Ukrainian government, Economist Conferences, part of The Economist Group, is holding a Ukraine Summit at the InterContinental Hotel in Kyiv on March 29.
Chaired by Arkady Ostrovsky, The Economist's senior correspondent in Moscow, the event will offer participants the opportunity to get expert assessment of Ukraine’s economic prospects, network with business leaders from Ukrainian and multinational companies and discuss Ukraine's future with top-level officials from the government and opposition parties, including: Vice-Prime-Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Borys Kolesnikov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostiantyn Hryschenko, Chairman of the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reforms Vitaliy Klychko, Leader of the Reform and Order Party Viktor Pynzenyk, and others.
President Viktor Yanukovych came to power promising to introduce much-needed measures to overhaul state finances, cut red tape, reform the tax code and make Ukraine an easier place in which to invest and do business. At the summit, a select group of policy-makers, business leaders, investors and influential commentators will debate Ukraine's prospects, tackling the challenging issues which will shape the country's future and critically examining the government's reform program.
"Ukraine has a big potential for development. The conference, where the nitty-gritty of the economic sense of the potential for development is discussed from all angles, provides an insight into the future for every participant," said Mohammad Zahoor, conference speaker, founder of ISTIL Group and an expert entrepreneur who has made a fortune in Ukraine.
Delegates will also hear insights from former Canadian Prime Minister and Board Chair of Foundation for Effective Governance Kim Campbell, CEO of Siemens Ukraine Max Egger, Executive Director of Ostausschuss der Deuschen Wirtschaft Rainer Lindner, IMF representative in Ukraine Max Alier, General Manager for Shell Ukraine Partrick van Daele, President of Kyivstar Ihor Lytovchenko, Partner of SigmaBleyzer Dr. Edilberto Segura, German Ambassador to Ukraine Hans-Juergen Heimsoeth, and many others.
This conference comes at a very important time for Ukraine. According to Arkady Ostrovsky: "Ukraine is a country of great strategic importance and potential. This year will be crucial in determining whether the country can deliver on its promise to push through much needed reforms without sacrificing hard won democracy."
CNN is the official broadcaster of the event. Also, Ukraine Summit is sponsored by System Capital Management, Kyivstar Business, JTI, Phoenix Capital, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ukraine International Airlines.
