Ukraine's most exclusive and largest billiard club Sharpei™ (Kyiv) officially opened on December 25, 2010, with public billiard tournaments for amateurs. Occupying 3,000 square meters of usable sports area, the Sharpei club consists of several halls, including a hall with 22 twelve-foot billiard tables for Russian pyramid, ten nine-foot billiard tables for pool and eight ten-foot tables for snooker. The total capacity of the Sharpei club is 200 billiard players, combined with a 62 car parking lot. The Sharpei club boasts Ukraine's only permanent-set and largest tournament zone, certified under European standards and equipped with live TV and Internet broadcasting. "With the opening of the Sharpei billiard club, amateurs and professional billiard players in Ukraine have got a unique possibility of participating in world-class competitions," says Vladimir Sinitsin, a snooker reporter on the Eurosport Russia TV channel. "Talks are currently under way to broadcast professional tournaments on Eurosport." "A billiard school for children and adults, including for those with limited physical abilities, is about to start its work," added Aleksey Tereshchenko, the manager of billiard tournaments. "Our youngest and oldest club members are 5 and 85 years old respectively. Sharpei is a perfect place for intellectual sports leisure and family entertainment around the clock, as well as for corporate events and billiard championships for large companies, including with the service of 'turn-key' organization. Besides, we have a club card system to motivate loyalty to our club's developing traditions." Sharpei is the only zoned billiard club in Ukraine with three zones: a snooker zone designed in British colonial style, a zone for Russian pyramid and a zone designated for pool. The latter two are created in classic style with a unique interior whose zest is LED-lighted friezes by artist Alisa Dolgannikova who has depicted, with a slight portion of irony, legendary figures of world history and publicly adored invented characters where a billiard game between the first astronaut Yuriy Gagarin and Soviet militia pro Gleb Zheglov can be real. The club's bar, designed as a huge white and red balloon, offers guests wonderful European cuisine at democratic prices from a chef who has worked for a popular restaurant in Kyiv for a long while. The Sharpei billiard club has two VIP halls – Saigon and The Bibliothèque. The classic design of The Bibliothèque with authentic Antarctica exploration pictures belongs to Art Nouveau. It has a collection of scientific books and retrospective magazines of the second half of the 20th century, which creates ideal ambient for real intellectuals to get immersed in a billiard game. "The interior of the Saigon VIP hall is unique in every detail: from fans on the ceiling to military maps of the might-have-been capital of South Vietnam in bamboo copse, carrying signs of the United States' elite troops. This atmosphere will bring the players to the times of a short-lived peace during the Vietnam War," said Pavel Salyga, the club's art director. The club houses a permanent art gallery, which is to open with an exhibition of works by young talented artist Tatyana Loyko, who has invented her own creative technique with elements of impressionism and pointillism. Exclusive materials and equipment from such world known brands as Buffalo (billiard tables), Milliken and Iwan Simonis (both billiard cloth), Aramith (Belgian-made billiard balls), A.S. Creation (wallpaper), Robert Allen (fabric and décor), Sharp Electronics (LCD TVs), Daikin (conditioning equipment), FraPol (ventilation and conditioning systems) and Kopf (electronic sanitaryware items) were used for the design of the Sharpei billiard club. Advanced multimedia equipment, including wireless microphones for holding tournaments with online broadcasting, has been installed in the club. There is also the largest Ukrainian-based installation of Sharp 42-inch LCD TVs within all the halls of the club.
