The Ukrainian Union of ATO Veterans and the Socialist Party of Ukraine (SPU) have honored the memory of the soldiers who died in the World War II. Forming a guard of honor near the Memorial, the ATO veterans provided access to the Eternal Fire to all those people wishing to honor the memory of the heroes of the war, reported the SPU's press office on the official website of party.

"For me, this day is out of the politics. This victory was forged by all the nations of the USSR. And not only the USSR. Almost all the nations of Europe fought against Nazism. It is people, not the political regimes! And when today politicians arrange a tug of war, telling about whose contribution to the Victory was bigger, it goes against me," Head of the SPU and the Ukrainian Union of ATO Veterans Illia Kyva said.

He also recalled that the Ukrainian Union of ATO Veterans has been guarding the Eternal Flame for six months defending it from intrusion.

"I am a soldier. And I know what it is like to look death in the face - every day, every minute. Our grandfathers also experienced this themselves. My grandfather, Filip Kyva, went through the war, earned the Title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Soldiers of the World War II did not think about political regimes - they defended their country. And they defeated Nazism. They did it, not politicians! That is why the Ukrainian Union of ATO Veterans has been guarding the Monument to the Soldier Liberator for six months. We bow down before veterans, and eternal glory to them!" the head of the SPU said.

The head of the Socialist Party also said that the example of the World War II veterans serves as a great inspiration for Ukrainian soldiers.

"At the front line, we often recalled the feat of our grandfathers. We tried to be like them, do not give up, no matter how strong the enemy was. Returning to a peaceful life, we do not put down arms. To change the country for the better, to finish the war with victory, to cope with corruption, lawlessness and arbitrariness of authorities is our task today," the head of the SPU said.

More than a hundred people laid flowers to the Eternal Fire at the Monument to the Soldier Liberator. Among them are the head of the SPU and the Ukrainian Union of ATO veterans Illia Kyva, ATO veterans and members of the Socialist Party.
