International Forum of Corporate Secretaries to be held in Odesa

The International Forum of Corporate Secretaries will take place in the grand hall of the Odesa Film Studio on May 24 - 25, 2013.

The role of corporate secretaries has recently increased due to the development of corporate governance. The coordination of work of management bodies of a corporation or a joint-stock company, the exchange of information between management and shareholders depend on corporate secretaries. It is not a technical position, but an office for a versatile manager.

In Ukraine, this office appeared a long time ago and out of all corporate governance positions, its work profile is most closely related to international practice, as it is not regulated by national legislation and the requirements for corporate secretaries are formed on base of "best practice". High level of the corporate secretary work means high level of corporate governance. No wonder that in the UK corporate secretaries are often called "a hand behind the throne" and the level of their salaries is usually among the top 10 in the company.

The forum's targets are:

• Creating a mutual platform for discussion and demonstration of best Ukrainian and international practices for corporate secretaries.

• Corporate legislation: discussion of challenges, proposals for improvement.

• Standards and best practices of corporate governance implementation in Ukraine

The forum will include a ceremony of awarding the winners of the contest Corporate Secretary - 2012, the nominees of which will share experience, present business cases and give master classes in corporate secretary practices.

The participants of the event will be given a tour of the legendary Odesa Film Studio and a banquet in honor of the winners of the contest.

The event is organized by the Professional Association of Corporate Governance, the Ukrainian Institute of Corporate Governance, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
