Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, volunteers of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) have provided psychosocial and social support to almost half a million Ukrainian citizens, Head of the URCS's Rehabilitation and Support Department Hanna Didenko has said.

"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion alone, volunteers of the Ukrainian Red Cross have provided assistance to more than 450,000 people," she said at a press conference hosted by the Interfax-Ukraine News Agency on Tuesday.

Didenko also noted that currently the URCS has got 60 rooms and seven centers for psychosocial support in Ukraine.

"These centers are located in Poltava, Ternopil, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Uzhgorod, Khmelnytsky, and Kamyanets-Podilsky," the head of the department said.

According to her, over time the number of such centers will increase as the need for them grows.

Didenko emphasized that the target audience for psychosocial support is children, since they are more vulnerable and cannot cope with stress on their own.

"In addition, we work with families, and we also work with families of veterans and elderly people," she said.

The URCS representative also recalled that the organization began providing psychosocial support in 2014, however, the challenges and scale faced by volunteers and specialists have changed.

Didenko emphasized that currently volunteers are helping to overcome, in particular, such pressing problems as difficulties with communication in schools after distance learning and with the adaptation of children who come to Ukraine after being abroad, and adaptation in the new groups of temporarily displaced persons.
