Zelenskyy introduces bill on multiple citizenship to Rada

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy introduced a bill on multiple citizenship to the Verkhovna Rada.

"Today I am introducing a key bill to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine that will allow the adoption of comprehensive changes to legislation and the introduction of the institution of multiple citizenship. And it will allow all ethnic Ukrainians and their descendants from different countries of the world to have our citizenship. Of course, except for citizens of the aggressor country," he said in a video address on the occasion of Unity Day.

According to him, "everyone who, during periods of various waves of emigration, was forced to leave their native land, finding themselves in Europe, the United States, Canada, Asian countries, Latin America. Everyone who helps us, despite hundreds of thousands of kilometers from their native land. Foreign volunteers, those who stood up for the defense of Ukraine. Everyone who fights for the freedom of Ukraine as a homeland. And the corresponding decision is one of the elements of such freedom, one of the possibilities for realizing such a right. The right to be Ukrainian."

Zelenskyy also said he signed a decree on the territories of the Russian Federation historically inhabited by Ukrainians. "This is the return of the truth about the historical past for the sake of the Ukrainian future," he said.

According to Zelenskyy, "every year, on January 22, we always mentioned two key lessons of those times. Two pointers for all generations of the Ukrainian nation. To gain your own statehood, you need to fight. To protect it, you need to unite. And the day has come when we managed to prove it."
