Ukraine will inevitably become EU member, Germany's political elites face simple choice – to lead this process and go down in history, or to stay away – Kuleba

The process of Ukraine's European integration is inevitable, and sooner or later the country will join the EU, so Germany's political elites are now faced with a choice: to lead this process and enter the history of Europe, or to stay away, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.

Speaking about the results of his trip to Berlin in a video message on Sunday, Kuleba noted that he had a "very rational discussion" with representatives of Germany regarding Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

"I told them a very simple thing. It's going to happen anyway. It's inevitable. Definitely, Ukraine will get the status of a candidate sooner or later, and we want it to happen early, but in a timely manner, in June at the EU summit. Therefore, the choice before the German elites is very simple: either to lead this process and write their names in the history of Europe, or it will happen anyway, but without your [German] participation," the minister said.

At the same time, he noted that there is still "room for work" on this issue.

"I call on each of you who have contacts, friends in Germany, to mobilize maximum support so that at the end of June at the summit of the European Union Ukraine will receive this status [candidate for membership in the EU]," the diplomat summed up.
