The prosecution has said Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the night between February 18 and February 19. Yanukovych says he does not remember such a call.

During the hearing in Sviatoshynsky District Court of Kyiv via a video conference, the prosecutor said they established Putin twice called Yanukovych via special communication channels between February 18 and February 19, 2014.

"I am asking you to clarify the subject of these talks," the prosecutor told Yanukovych, asking him if he indeed had any contacts with Putin that night.

The ex-president said, "I do not remember such a conversation. Most likely, there was no such conversation. It is most likely, but I do not remember..."

Asked by the prosecutor whether this means that the witness denies that such a conversation with Putin took place, Yanukovych once again said that he does not remember.

In addition, the prosecutor said on February 18-19, 2014, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov and his son together with an employee of the Ukrainian State Guard Department went to Russia and met there with the top leadership, including Putin. The prosecutor asked Yanukovych if he knows anything about the purpose and circumstances of this trip. In response, the former president said, "This is the first I've heard about this. I do not know who flew where and who met whom. I did not communicate with Azarov during this time. It seems to me, he was no longer working as prime minister at the time."
