Poroshenko approves National Strategy on Human Rights

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed the decree on approving the National Strategy on Human Rights to improve the actions of the state to ensure and confirm human rights and freedoms in Ukraine.

According to the Presidential Administration's press service, the decree approves the National Strategy on Human Rights and orders the Cabinet of Ministers to develop an action plan to realize the strategy by 2020, and attract representatives of government agencies, local self-administrations, civil society institutes, leading Ukrainian scientists and international experts to working on the strategy.

"The Revolution of Dignity affirmed the irrevocable aspiration of the Ukrainian people to build a lawful and democratic state, which guarantees and ensures human rights and freedoms. In the conditions of the temporary occupation of part of Ukrainian territory and the military aggression of the Russian Federation in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the problem of securing human rights and freedoms is becoming increasingly acute. In a crisis, the risk of disproportionate restriction of human rights and freedoms increases requiring special control from society," the strategy said.

The Strategy permits the active use of the international experience, particularly that of the UN, the Council of Europe, OSCE, and the European Court of Human Rights.
