EU denies plans to postpone signing of Association Agreement with Ukraine

The spokesperson for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton, Maja Kocijancic, has again said that Brussels remains committed to signing the association agreement with Ukraine in Vilnius, and has refuted any speculation about the postponement of the signing for a later date.

Kocijancic said this on Tuesday in Brussels in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

"The EU is committed to signing the Association Agreement, which includes deep and comprehensive free trade area with Ukraine at the Vilnius summit, provided the benchmarks are fulfilled. This is the goal we have, and any speculation about a signature at a later date is completely ungrounded," she said.

"The Vilnius momentum is now, and we urge Ukraine to seize this historic opportunity," Kocijancic added.

Some Ukrainian media reported earlier, referring to Kocijancic, that the EU was considering the possibility of signing the association agreement with Ukraine after the Eastern Partnership Summit, which is scheduled for November 28-29.
