SBU detains four accomplices of man who blew himself up on Ukrainian-Russian border
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has established the identity of a man, who in early October blew himself up on the Russian-Ukrainian border in Sumy region, and has detained four of his accomplices in Ukraine.
"The identity of the deceased has been established. He was a Russian citizen, a native and resident of Kabardino-Balkaria Republic of the Russian Federation, who was trying to cross the state border of Ukraine with a passport in someone else's name. This person had been on the wanted list of the Russian Federation since 2010 on suspicion of involvement in illegal armed groups," Interfax-Ukraine learned at the SBU press center.
The Security Service of Ukraine with the assistance of the Alpha special force arrested four accomplices of the deceased, who are suspected of involvement in bringing him illegally to Ukraine.
The detainees include a Russian citizen, a native of Kabardino-Balkaria, who is on the international wanted list on suspicion of involvement in the 2001 terrorist attacks in the Stavropol region, which left 26 people dead and 136 injured. The issue of his extradition is being settled.
As reported, on October 4, a man, who had crossed the Russian-Ukrainian border, detonated an explosive device at passport control at the Bachivsk crossing point in Ukraine. The man was killed and two border guards were seriously injured in the blast.
Sumy region police launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
A source from law enforcement agencies later said that the man was a militant. The documents, which were found on him, characterized him as a militant. In addition, the photos were found, in which he posed with different types of explosives.
