Prosecuting agencies have opened a criminal case over the falsification of ballots in constituency No. 223 in Kyiv, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka has said.

"The issue concerns outright fraud in single-seat constituency No. 223. Checks were conducted on the basis of complaints, and there were grounds to open a criminal case," he said at a press conference on Monday.

Pshonka added this was a criminal case that was opened on the basis of concrete requests submitted by parliamentary candidates, voters, and about concrete violations that had been committed.

"The investigators are considering the case to find the perpetrators of the fraud," he said.

He also added: "The decision to open a criminal case in constituency No. 223 concerns ballots."

Pshonka said that the issue concerned two marks for one candidate in 402 ballots.

He noted that the case had been opened under Part 3, Article 158 of the Criminal Code (fraud committed during the election process).

He expressed hope that there would be no delay in the investigation of this case. However, he suggested that it would be hard to establish who had been involved in the fraud.
