The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has not commented on the resignation of the Finance Minister of Ukraine, but stressed the need to maintain its central role in fiscal policy, IMF Spokesman Gerry Rice has said.

The Ministry of Finance should maintain a central and key role in fiscal policy, he said at a traditional briefing in Washington.

Asked to comment on the parliament's decision to dismiss Oleksandr Danyliuk from the post of finance minister at the suggestion of the prime minister, Rice said that the fund did not comment on personalities and similar personal issues.

At the same time, he stated that Danyliuk played an important role in the negotiations with Ukraine and noted that the resigned minister was a strong supporter of reforms.
