Ukraine needs to continue decisive steps to fight corruption

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) welcomes the launch of the e-declaration system in Ukraine and said that more decisive steps to fight corruption should be made, IMF representative Gerry Rice has said.

"We think this is progress [with e-declaration] but Ukraine will need to take further decisive steps to fight corruption, including by making these new institutions fully operational and bringing cases to court," he said at a briefing in Washington on Thursday.

Rice pointed out the importance of establishing a level plain field and reducing a scope for corruption, including streamlining of business licenses, improving transparency of public procurement, brining energy prices to cost recovery levels, cleaning up the banking system, strengthening tax administration and putting in place and effective framework to prevent money laundering.

He said that the IMF is ready to help to Ukrainian power agencies to prevent corruption.
