Deficit of Ukraine's balance of payment 54.6% down in Jan 2015

The deficit of Ukraine's balance of payment in January 2015 came to $890 million, which was 54.6% down from a year ago ($1.934 billion) and 60% down on December 2014 ($2.261 billion), reads a posting on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

"In January 2015 the deficit of consolidated balance of payment came to $890 million, which is almost 50% down on January 2014 ($1.9 billion) mainly thanks to the reduction of outflow of funds from the financial account," reads the report.

NBU said that the deficit of the current account fell by 17.8% in January 2015 on January 2014, to $342 million: exports of goods fell by 31.6% in annual terms, to $3.1 billion (the lowest figure in the past four years) and imports of goods decreased by 33.4%, to $3.5 billion.

According to the report, the deficit of financial and capital accounts totaled $548 million, which is almost 67% down on January 2014 ($1.518 billion).

NBU said that net inflow of foreign direct investment was $108 million in January 2015, while net outflow was $110 in January 2014.

Off-bank cash currency fell by $57 million in January 2015, while in January 2014 it grew by $600 million.

The central bank said that in January Ukraine paid the IMF credit worth $220 million.
