Hyundai Rotem to face serious penalties - Azarov

Ukraine intends to penalize Hyundai Rotem for problems in the work of its ten trains, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

"I've just spoken with the [acting] minister of transport. An authoritative commission will meet next week, it will include our best experts and specialists of the South Korean company. The issue of resolving defects will be considered, and then it will be clear when the operation of these trains will resume," Azarov wrote on his Facebook page.

Azarov noted that he had appealed to the Acting Minister [of Infrastructure Volodymyr Kozak], asking him to obligatorily provide relevant information.

"On this issue, serious penalties will be set for the South Korean company, we will try as soon as possible to resume the these train services," said the former prime minister.

As reported, the detected technical failure of one of the Intercity+ trains made Hyundai Rotem, together with the Ukrainian High-Speed Railway Company, to temporarily suspend the operation of all ten trains for the safety of passengers on February 12.
