Ukraine and Japan have agreed to hold a high-level bilateral security dialogue in connection with the participation of North Korean soldiers in Russian aggression, Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi said.

As Iwaya said at a press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiha in Kyiv on Saturday, during the meeting, the foreign ministers discussed in detail “the extremely alarming situation in connection with the deployment of North Korean soldiers to the Russian Federation and their direct participation in the Russian invasion.” According to the minister, Japan is extremely concerned about this situation, because it will have an extremely negative impact not only in Ukraine, but also in East Asia.

“Due to our concerns, we have agreed to hold a bilateral dialogue on security issues at a higher level. This is the participation of the heads of foreign political and defense departments in order to further strengthen information exchange and cooperation in the field of security,” he said.

According to Iwaya, thus, cooperation between Japan and Ukraine will be promoted more systematically within the framework of such a dialogue.
