Spain transfers 10 Spanish Leopard 2A4 battle tanks to Ukraine – Defense Ministry
Spain is transferring a new batch of military aid to Ukraine, which includes ten Leopard 2A4 battle tanks, several excavators and a significant number of anti-tank missiles, the Spanish Ministry of Defense said.
"The multimodal transportation to Ukraine of ten Leopard 2A4 battle tanks has begun, which have undergone an exhaustive process of repair, configuration and readiness at the Santa Bárbara Sistemas plant in Alcalá de Guadaira (Seville), as well as relevant tests to verify their full functionality," the ministry said.
The first stage of transport, from Seville to Ferrol, was carried out by land last week. After boarding the ship for the second stage of transport, by sea, the ship left Ferrol on Saturday, July 13.
Aid is expected to arrive at the Polish port before next weekend. After arrival in Poland, it will begin secure transportation by land to the place of delivery to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"The Armed Forces of Ukraine will be responsible for the last stage of movement across the territory of Ukraine until it is placed at the disposal of the operational units of the Ukrainian army. Security measures are taken at all stages of this important movement," the ministry said.
With this new batch of Leopard 2A4 battle tanks, Spain has transferred a total of 20 such tanks to Ukraine, and plans to prepare or transfer another new set in the second half of 2024.
