Ukraine hopes to attract private investment during the reconstruction and construction of six sports arenas for the EuroBasket 2015 European Basketball Championship, Youth and Sports Minister Ravil Safiullin has said.

"We should build six sports arenas by the time of EuroBasket 2015. The issue concerns multipurpose arenas, and one of them has already been presented in Donetsk. Here we won't be able to do everything except with the assistance of the state. For example, the Donbass hockey club is the customer of the Sports Palace in Donetsk. At the initial stage, the state provides installments for seven years. Five more arenas, in Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Lviv and Odesa, will be built under this scheme," he said at a briefing on Thursday.

In addition, the minister said that the government plans to seriously engage in the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and sports in the country, strengthen the construction and reconstruction of sports facilities, and enhance state support for athletes.

As reported, on December 18, 2011 Ukraine received the right to host the European Basketball Championship in 2015. Ukraine proposed hosting the championship in its largest cities, including Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Lviv, Kharkiv and Ivano-Frankivsk.
