Kyiv, December 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A national contest on the creation of multimedia lessons for general secondary education among teachers and methodologists will be launched in Ukraine from December 10, 2011.

The event is being held in the context of the Open World national project, Open World project Director Ihor Kurus said at a press conference in Interfax-Ukraine agency on Thursday.

The contest will be held in 12 categories that correspond to the 12 basic subjects of the educational program of the third term in the seventh grade of secondary school. The contest will last until January 10, 2012.

The winners will receive equipment for the creation and use of e-resources during studies and educational work.

To participate in the contest applicants should submit a project to the Web site www.ow.org.ua.

The main aim of the project is to find teachers and methodologists with whom it will be possible to cooperate on a contractual basis in the future, Academician-Secretary at the Department of General Secondary Education at the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine Oleksandr Liashenko said.

"Today we can say there are individual enthusiast teachers that are engaged in this process, but we want every teacher to know about the technology [for creating and using of multimedia lessons] and use it systematically," he said.

In future it is planned to create a bank of multimedia lessons.

From January 11, 2012 in the frames of the Open World project, a pilot project will be launched to introduce and promote the use of modern technologies in the educational sphere in secondary schools. About 7,000 teachers and over 20,000 pupils in more than 700 schools in 23 Ukrainian regions are to be involved in the pilot project, Kurus reported.

The Open World National project is designed to run for four years. It is expected to cost UAH 4.7 billion for its implementation, including UAH 1.2 billion from the state budget.
