Sport Life to invest $60 m to create fitness club chain in Kyiv by 2014

Kyiv, June 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Sport Life Group, which manages the chain of eponymous fitness clubs in Russia and Ukraine, is planning by late 2013 to complete the creation of its chain in Kyiv, extending it from five to 22 clubs, group founder Dmitry Ekimov has said.

"We plan to complete construction in 2012 and in 2013 open six more Sport Life clubs in Kyiv, bringing their total number to 22. Each club will have its own profile: in some it will be squash, some boxing, fencing, etc.," he said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine in Kyiv on Thursday.

Ekimov said that "we foresaw $60 million in the budget to complete the chain in Kyiv."

According to the chain founder, a club will be opened in the Osokorky district in July 2011, a club in the Lisovy residential area in autumn, and a club in the Troyeschyna residential area in December. In addition, this year the group will extend the area of its club in Protasiv Yar by 600 square meters and install additional equipment there.

Sport Life plans next year to open ten fitness clubs in Kyiv, in particular, four clubs will open in spring, whereas the remaining six ones in autumn 2012.

"By the end of next year we will implement our plans to construct 15 clubs in Kyiv and about 13 clubs in the regions," said Ekimov.

In addition, he said that the group plans to open a fitness club in New York in the middle of 2012.

"A tennis court with 15-20 courts is being constructed. And we are constructing a building of 3,000 square meters for a fitness club without a swimming pool on its territory. Investment [in the project] is $6 million," he said.

Sport Life Group manages the eponymous chain off fitness clubs, the chain of Eurasia restaurants and sushi bars, sports stores, and solaria.
