National competition for young Russian-speaking writers to be held in Ukraine

Kyiv, November 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A national competition for young Russian-speaking writers aged under 45, entitled "The Activation of the Word" will take place in Ukraine, the co-chairman of the jury and writer, Andrei Miller, has said.

"We are trying to look back and understand if we have a young literary growth after us, is it developing?... That’s why the idea of holding the national competition for young writers aged under 45 arose," he said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

According to the organizers, the initiator of the competition, the Raduga literary magazine, wants to promote the literary process in Ukraine. At the same time, Miller noted that the task of the competition is not political or ideological.

According tot him, the prose of writers is accepted from October 1 to February 15, the results will be summarized in March, and the winners will be announced in April. The prize fund totals UAH 30,000, and the grand prize is UAH 10,000.

The chairman of the competition's jury is writer Viktor Erofeyev. The jury also includes writers, fantasy writers Maryna and Serhiy Diachenko, journalist and MP Olha Herasymiuk, and Ukrainian writer Anatoliy Krym. In addition, according to Miller, the prose of authors will be evaluated in two categories: authors aged under 30 – small jury, and authors aged under 45 – large jury.
