Assets being raised for equipment for treatment of children with burn injuries in Ukraine
Kyiv, November 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A charity project entitled "Give Support to a Child," which is aimed at raising assets for the purchase of equipment necessary to treat children with burn injuries, has been launched in Ukraine.
During a press conference hosted by Interfax-Ukraine, the chairman of the initiative group, Natalia Bozhko, said that in 2009 some 807 children with burn injuries were registered at the children's department of Kyiv City Center for Treatment of Burn Injuries, and 583 of them underwent medical treatment.
"Patients with burn injuries are the most problematic. When they get to the hospital, a number of problems appear, depending on the stage of the burn injury. One of these problems lies in the reduction of the pain barrier," Bozhko said.
According to her, the Dermatome apparatus considerably relieves pain and makes treatment of burn injuries easier. One such set of apparatus costs about $5,000.
The board chairman of the Charitable Fund "Ukraine! I am for you" Oleksandr Mushak said that the project will last for three months, during which they expect to collect about UAH 300,000.
As part of the project it is planned to hold a charity party with the participation of Ukrainian pop stars, a closed auction, buy toys for the children's department of the treatment center, broadcast a promotion video on displays in Kyiv streets, raise funds using volunteers in the streets of Kyiv and install cash-boxes for the collection of funds at shopping centers, children's shops and sports stores.
