Ukrainian lawyers accuse law enforcement agencies of violating human rights
Kyiv, March 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) –Mass violations of human rights have been registered at law enforcement agencies, according to Ukrainian lawyers.
Lawyer Oleh Veremeyenko made the claim at Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday during a press conference entitled "Torture in Kyiv pre-trial detention centre: the case of Yuriy Zubko, violation of the right to medical assistance. Torture in police stations: the case of Tamaz Kardava."
"We would like to tell about torture at the law enforcement agencies," he said.
According to the lawyer, representatives of one of district police offices of Kyiv during the interrogation "tortured" his defendant Kardava, who was accused of an assault related to robbery.
At the same time Veremeyenko said that the prosecutor's office declined to open a criminal case against the policemen who allegedly beat Kardava.
Lawyer Anatoliy Kaleniuk told of another case of the violation of human rights. According to the lawyer, in spite of a doctor's recommendations, proper medical assistance was not rendered to his client Zubko, who was accused of a large-scale fraud.
