Popularity rating of Regions Party growing, says poll
Kyiv, December 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Regions Party would have won over 30% of the vote if the parliamentary election had been held on November 29, according to a poll carried out by FOM-Ukraine on November 22-30, 2009.
The results of the poll were presented at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.
Some 32.3% of those polled said they would have voted for the Regions Party (29.2% in October), 15% for the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko (16% in October), and 5.3% for Arseniy Yatseniuk's Front for Change (7.7% in October).
The Bloc of Sergiy Tigipko would receive 4.1% of the vote, the Communist Party 3.7% of the vote (5.1% in October), and the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense Bloc 3.5% of the vote (0.4% in October).
The Bloc of Volodymyr Lytvyn would not overcome the 3% threshold, as only 2.8% would vote for it (2.1% in October).
Five political parties and blocs are represented in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament. They include the Regions Party, the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko, the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense Bloc, the Communist Party, and the Bloc of Lytvyn.
A total of 1,000 respondents were surveyed. The poll's margin of error is 3.2%.
