Candidate for Kyiv mayor Saliy hopes CEC to positively settle his issue
Kyiv, May 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Candidate for mayor of Kyiv city Ivan Saliy, who has been removed form the election race by the territorial election commission, is hoping the Central Election Commission (CEC) will settle his issue positively and said he is prepared to submit a lawsuit on the matter to the courts.
Saliy said that the CEC today is considering his appeal regarding the decision of the territorial election commission to withdraw him from the registration as a Kyiv mayor, he said at the press conference hosted by Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.
"We want to the CEC the chance to show its worth. The CEC could cancel this decision," he said adding that the decision will be announced on May 15.
Besides, Saliy's lawyers have simultaneously prepared an administrative court lawsuit if there is no positive decision from the CEC.
As reported, on Wednesday the mayoral candidate Lesia Orobets wrote on Facebook that the territorial election commission had removed her candidacy from the elections of Kyiv mayor.
"The formal reason was that I'm running for the mayor as a self-nominated candidate and although I'm not a party member I was at the head of a party list [Article 35]. The removal happened on the last possible day.
Orobets said that Kyiv ex-mayor Ivan Saliy has been also withdrawn from the election race.
CEC head Mykhailo Okhendovsky reported that candidates for Kyiv mayor, whose candidacies the territorial election commission removed from the elections, would do better to appeal to the courts, though, the CEC could also consider this issue.
