Kyiv, May 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Eastern-European Fuel and Energy Company (VETEK) has presented a project for the construction of Kharkiv-Arena, where matches of the European Basketball Championship 2015 will take place.

"Today Kharkiv lacks sport infrastructure objects, and we think that our arena will help resolve this situation. For us this is a social rather than investment project. And the decision of the head of the VETEK supervisory council, Serhiy Kurchenko, that the company will act as the general investor in the arena construction, is real proof that we are able to develop not only our own business but also important social projects necessary for the society," the representative of the general investor and the first vice president of FC Metalist, Kostiantyn Pivovarov, said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

According to him, the experience of the construction of such facilities when preparing for Euro 2012 showed that such facilities have to be planned very carefully.

"It makes no sense to build a giant arena, invest huge amounts of money only for it to stand idle after a few games," he said.

VETEK Group specializes in the sale of liquefied and natural gas, fuel and products for oil and gas industries, and operates about 150 fuel filling stations. It has assets and performs operations in Ukraine and some other countries.

The main shareholder of the group is Serhiy Kurchenko, who in late 2012 became the owner of FC Metalist (Kharkiv).
