Political situation in Ukraine can be changed only through early elections, political scientists say

Kyiv, April 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian political scientists have said it is impossible to emerge from the existing political situation in Ukraine without early elections, President of the Open Policy Analytical Center Ihor Zhdanov said at a press conference in Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.

He said the issue of simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections is clear, as the president is trying to help his political force enter parliament.

"If the elections are conducted simultaneously, it is clear that theoretically the bloc of Viktor Yuschenko has a chance to enter parliament. This will allow the president to hold tools of administrative influence on the situation," the expert said.

According to Zhdanov, if early parliamentary elections were to be conducted after the presidential elections, "then the entrance [to parliament] of any presidential force is quite unrealistic."
