EU doesn't see Ukraine as its member, facing various problems, says Svoboda Union
Kyiv, April 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Members of the Svoboda All-Ukrainian Union think that the European Union does not see Ukraine as its member, as of today, and is facing various problems, due to which Europeans are revising some of their values.
"There is a question whether such international organizations as the EU and NATO want to see Ukraine as their partner today. We clearly oppose any unions, in which Russia dominates and is present. Ukraine obviously belongs to the European civilized space, and we are in Europe, we don't need to move anywhere, but I think that you also have certain complaints about bureaucracy in Brussels, which eats out most part of national values of the European states," Deputy Chairman of the Svoboda Association for political issues Andriy Mokhnyk said at a meeting with Danish media hosted by Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.
He added that while the so-called 'Schröderization' exists in Europe and while Germany has friendly relations with Gazprom, it will actively oppose Ukraine's integration into the EU.
In turn, member of the political council and Chairman of the Kyiv City Organization of the Svoboda Union Andriy Illenko noted that his political force distinguishes such geopolitical area as the Baltic-Black Sea axis, which could unite first of all Eastern European states, which have common history and geopolitical interests.
"This should be a certain geopolitical and rather close economic union, which would ensure existence of these countries in the world. And we think that Ukraine could realize its potential best of all in such geopolitical area, and this does not contradict our European vector, and accomplishes and makes it even more clear," he said.
According to Illenko, current success of European nationalist parties at the elections in their countries shows that after many years of following liberal political philosophy Europe started realizing not only positive sides of economic well-being ensured by this philosophy, but also negative sides connected with economic crisis, illegal migration, and political instability.
"Europeans started again looking in the direction of nationalism, patriotism, traditional values, socially fair economy, in the direction of Europe, which always was in the centre of the world and ensured its progress, scientific development, and humanity," Illenko said.
